From Finland to the USA
Learn about Powergrip's history from a humble start in northern Finland to being the first disc golf retailer operating in two contitnents.

In the United States our online store and retail store are located in Bloomington, Illinois.
Inception and Early Years of Powergrip
Powergrip started in 2009 as a side project of Fritid Finland Oy. It was born from the passion for disc golf shared by Pasi Laukkanen, Petteri Turunen, Janne Länsitie, Jussi Viirelä, and Erno Väyrynen.
The group began by volunteering to develop disc golf courses in Oulu, Finland, and soon saw an opportunity to turn their hobby into a business.
Growth and Development
Recognizing a growing demand for disc golf equipment, we opened our first store in a garage in Oulu's city center. We also launched an online store to reach more customers. With a focus on prompt service, Powergrip quickly gained a reputation for reliability.
Expansion Beyond Oulu
Building on the early success, Powergrip expanded to other Finnish cities, including Helsinki, Turku, Tampere, and Kuopio.
The acquisition of Frisbeepoint in Helsinki in 2017 marked a significant milestone, solidifying Powergrip's presence nationwide in Finland.
Establishing Powergrip USA
In 2021, after establishing Discmania USA, Erno Väyrynen returned to Powergrip and spearheaded the venture into the United States. Teaming up with Zach Parcell, Powergrip ventured into Illinois, marking its first step into the American market.
Building for the Future
In 2025, the second version of Powergrip USA's website launched with the new Powergrip Points rewards program, Powergrip Partners sponsorship program, and more.
As the disc golf industry continues to grow, Powergrip will be right there alongside it.
